Windsor Castle

THE IRISH GUARDS AT WINDSOR CASTLE

I visited Windsor Castle recently. It's not far, about ten miles round the M25 from where I live in Wimbledon.

It was a sunny day. We drove past Runneymede and stopped off to see some of the monuments commemorating the Magna Carta but Windsor Castle was our main aim of the day. Here are a few soldiers during the changing of the guard. They are the Irish Guards who are based at Victoria Barracks in Windsor itself.

  1. Tony, is that an Irish wolfhound in some of the photos? Whatever it is, it looks like I could ride it!

  2. When Paul and I went to Windsor in '82, it was a slow day, and we had our own two tour guides. They were both so funny. I can still see the royal blue carpet. Beautiful place. You're lucky to be so close to such a treasure.

  3. Yes,Jean, that is an Irish Wolfhound. It was so well mannered and docile.

Mary, the next time you and Paul go to Windsor, give me a call. I know a few very nice pubs in Windsor. Know what I mean?
