An interesting post. The Sc...Thanks for this, Tony. An interesting post. The Scots are a great people - with a wonderful culture and history. They have made enormous contributions to Science, Engineering, Philosophy, Economics, Music and Literature. They have a beautiful land. Their yearning for national independence is understandable; it is certainly driven partly by a sense of grievance - feelings of being oppressed or denigrated.<br /><br />But the effects of going it alone would be more negative than positive, as time progressed. I think the Quebecois now realize that a separate Quebec would be a vulnerable and weakened entity. They thrive in a unified Canada - with all the benefits provided by a bilingual, bi-cultural nation. <br /><br />I hope the NO vote wins; but I hope also that this whole process will encourage both peoples to acknowledge each others particular qualities and value.
