Handels MESSIAH "The Hallelujah Chorus"

Mary Simonsen, wrote a post mentioning Handel's Messiah. It brought back fond teenage memories when I was made to listen to The Messiah by a teacher who was a Handel fanatic. He got all of us 16 year old lads totally addicted to it.

Tony is a retired teacher. He is a volunteer at The Museum of The Home (Geffrye Almshouses) in Shoreditch, where he gives tours of the almshouses. It is a remarkably powerful piece, and the history of how quickly Handel wrote it is fascinating. You owe your teacher a world of thanks for introducing it to you.

Handel's own set of performing parts for Messiah, with his own will, and much other Handel & Messiah material, are in London still as a part of the collections of the 'Foundling Museum' in Brunswick Square:
